BOSS 2018: Building Organizational & Sector Sustainability
Friday September 28, 2018 Marriot Pinnacle Hotel, Vancouver

Expression of Interest (EOI) Deadline: April 9, 2018

Thank you for your interest in applying to present at BOSS 2018! Below you will find our guide and rubric to support you to submit a strong application that aligns with BOSS’s objectives and our attendees’ expectations.

Please read this guide thoroughly before completing the Expression of Interest form linked at the bottom of this page.

BOSS, Vantage Point's innovative one-day leadership conference will once again convene seasoned and emerging leaders, board members and volunteers to develop competencies, skills and tools.

Selection Rubric

The BOSS organizing team would like to hear from presenters who are making an impact on leadership in BC’s not-for-profit sector. BOSS presenters will be selected by committee.

The rubric below will be used to evaluate each proposal. Please use this as a tool to plan your expression of interest. This process is competitive and has a limited number of spots. We encourage you to ensure you present a quality proposal that clearly outlines your presentation concept.

Presenter Criteria Description
Your Expertise

You are an authority on the proposed topic. The presentation looks at a particular aspect of a topic relevant to not-for-profit leaders in BC. You convey that you thoroughly understand the topic and will be able to answer any questions on the subject matter from participants.

Presentation Experience

You have experience presenting to large groups, are comfortable in this setting and can engage and inspire BOSS participants.

Topic

The presentation topic is focused around not-for-profit leadership and is connected to this year’s theme, resilience and relevance. Resilience relates to the continued strength and impact of organizations not-for-profit sector. Relevance is the ability to for organizations to reflect on their impact and ensure they continue to support the community effectively.

Preparing Your Expression of Interest

Please note we do not accept proposals that focus on selling from the stage. Participants attend BOSS to learn, rather than to be pitched a product or service. If you are a vendor/agency, you may want to instead present a case study on a client/customer that highlights successful application of a product or service, or opt to demonstrate your expertise with regards to a particular topic related to our theme.

Focus on the Positive. So often not-for-profit presentations focus on what is not available: time, people, money… scarcity. BOSS highlights the abundance of talent, assets and resources already at hand in our sector. We’re confident that focusing on the positive opportunities in front of us, combined with the application of these resources, can solve our most challenging issues.

Note on multiple presenters: BOSS presenters will be provided with one complimentary ticket for their session. Please note that if you would like to present with a partner, the second presenter will need to purchase a ticket for BOSS.

Time & Length of Sessions

You have three options

One-Hour Overview

  • Foundation level/broad/introductory to key concepts
  • Minimal to no group activity
  • Recommended to focus on one specific aspect of expertise OR broad overview of topic
  • Suggested formats: lecture, panel

Two-hour Deep Dive

  • Clearly articulate how the material goes further in-depth to show that two hours is appropriate
  • Showcase how the presentation could be adapted to a one hour session if necessary

Host a Panel

You have the option to propose a panel topic for BOSS. In your expression of interest please include the names and organizations of the proposed panelists and moderator in your submission.

The panels will be scheduled in the afternoon. Panelists are welcome to join for the closing networking reception. Due to a limited number of complementary tickets, panelists will need to purchase a BOSS ticket if they would like to attend for the full day.
