Take your understanding of the Societies Act to the next level.
Through group work and case studies, and building on Understanding the Societies Act I, this workshop will introduce and explore more complex legal issues in governance, finance and regulatory matters and provide a strong focus on changes coming to those areas.
Participants will have an opportunity to bring their current constitution and bylaws for a deeper review into compliance issues, related especially to these key governing documents.

At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
Identify necessary and helpful changes to organizational constitution and bylaws
Evaluate their own membership in light of governance requirements and best practices;
Analyse board composition and function;
Understand fiduciary responsibilities of directors and analyse application in specific circumstances;
Apply the conflict of interest rules for directors;
Assess meeting procedures and minutes; and
Articulate key priorities for your organization in working towards transitioning to the new Societies Act

Taking Societies Act Part I is not a requirement of taking Societies Act Part II. We recommend that you have a basic understanding of the BC Societies Act and review the description above to ensure you feel comfortable with the course material covered.
